Situated in a quiet setting in its own grounds, this large house built at the turn of the 19^th Century is in a perfect vacation location for visiting Provence.  The owners of the house, a friendly French couple, live in an adjacent building; the husband is Mayor of the village.  They will be as discreet or as sociable as you wish. 

The 300 sq m garden at the front of the house has a lawn planted with trees, outdoor dining furniture, sun beds and a BBQ.  The back of the house overlooks fields.  The house is ‘old fashioned French’ in style, with modern kitchen and bathroom.  All rooms are spacious and have high ceilings, original tiled floors and are mostly furnished with antique carved wooden furniture.

A short flight of steps leads to the main entrance to  the house, into an impressive hall with marble panelling and a high decorative ceiling.  To the right is a double bedded room which has a marble fireplace with a big, gilt framed mirror.

On the ground floor are a dining room with antique furniture overlooking the garden and a small salon with comfortable sofa, armchairs and TV. The kitchen has french doors which lead to a short flight of steps to the garden, and is well equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, gas stove, plus coffee machine etc.

The spacious, fully tiled bathroom is also on the ground floor; it has a separate bath and shower and hand wash basin; there is a separate WC.

A staircase from the hallway leads up to a landing, off which are two further double bedded rooms.  Both are large with big windows overlooking the garden, high ceilings and terracotta tiled floors.  The furniture is mostly of antique carved wood in keeping with the style of the house; there are wardrobes in each bedroom.

THE VILLAGE:

Les Marronniers is only a few minutes' stroll to the small community of Plan d'Orgon, which whilst simple, has several restaurants in all price ranges, two boulangeries, a butcher, mini-market, baker, chemist and doctors, also a tennis court.  Just 4 kms away is the typical Provencal town of Cavaillon, with supermarkets, shops, restaurants and a weekly street market.

The house’s location is perfect for visiting the highlights of Provence.  For example delightful St Rémy de Provence, with specialist boutiques and restaurants, is only a 10 minute drive. As well as many beautiful little villages nearby, the splendid towns of Arles and Aix en Provence can be easily visited.  Summer festivals and concerts abound in the area.  Mediterranean beaches (Fos-sur-Mer and Carry-le-Rouet for example) are a 50 minute drive, the bustling port of Marseille with an international airport, one hour.

The house charmed us all. Not only was size, decor and furniture wonderfully turn of the century (actually 1910 I believe) but it was refreshingly cool in the record temperatures we were hit with. It all seemed to resonate with a relaxed dignity that almost had us reaching for  the bell handles to call in the staff…….

We were all enchanted with Les Marronniers. It is a delightful house which seemed to capture a bygone age of charm and elegance.  The marble everywhere was amazing.

We had a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable break, and must say that the house makes the perfect geographic centre for touring around the area. The owners were a delight…..
