LANGUEDOC……France’s best kept secret

The picturesque little villages of the Languedoc are ideally located to enable you to enjoy a multitude of activities and to visit some marvellous - and often overlooked - sights of Southern France.  The local people are friendly and happy for you to practice your French with them - even if it's limited to "bonjour"!  There are tennis courts and golf courses nearby and the surrounding countryside is ideal for walking, cycling or horse riding.

EXPLORE....

There are many local places of interest nearby such as wonderfully well preserved Templar Knight villages.   Marvel at the weird rock formations at the Cirque de Moureze, the caves of Grottes des Demoiselles and Grottes de Clamous, famous throughout France.

An hour's drive takes you to splendid Roman towns such as Avignon, Nîmes, Arles.  Not forgetting the spectacular walled city of Carcassonne; a visit is a real step back in history. For a touch of true French sophistication, Montpellier (45 mins) offers the arts, theatre, shopping and an international airport and train station.

Make a day trip to the leafy, tranquil Canal du Midi, which has a terrific cycling track running alongside.  Stop at a little waterside inn for lunch in the sunshine.

SWIM.......

You have a varied choice of wonderful swimming spots - sandy Mediterranean beaches stretch for miles, picturesque Lake Salagou where you can swim, fish or windsurf and the clean, cool Hérault river with canoe hire for a fun trip down the river.

SHOP.......

Excellent typical street markets are to be found nearby, in historic Pézenas all day Saturday, Clermont l'Hérault on Wednesday mornings, Gignac and Lodève on Saturday morning.   As well as the freshest fruit and vegetables they also offer a range of beautiful items in Provençal fabrics and much more.  These bustling market towns have supermarkets, restaurants, shops and all services.

FEAST......

Languedoc has its own gastronomy, vibrant with Mediterranean flavours.  Spectacular seafood is best enjoyed over a lazy lunch at one of the typical little Mediterranean ports and you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the reasonable prices.  The region's biggest industry is wine, and with vineyards stretching as far the eye can see, spend some time tasting its well-known wines at the local 'caves co‑operatives' and private domains.
