A smart, extremely comfortable townhouse with private, sunny terrace, in a quiet location two minutes’ stroll from the centre of the lively market town of Clermont l’Hérault.  The main esplanade is just around the corner, with shady plane trees and outdoor cafes and restaurants.

A variety of restaurants, shops, etc plus one of the best weekly street markets in the area are almost on your doorstep, so a car isn’t essential.  This is a great base if you’d like a break in a typical southern French town.  The town’s public pool is only a five minute walk and the Mediterranean 35 kms away.  Sophisticated Montpellier 45 kms (direct bus service), has theatres, shops, an international airport and train station (TGV from Paris 3.5 hours).

 

The property, a detached former barn, has been recently renovated.  It is bright and light, spacious with chic, modern décor and the original beams have been incorporated to give character.  Velux (sky light) windows in the roof are used extensively so that you can have a house full of sunshine; electric shutters can be used if required during the hot months.  The open plan kitchen/dining/living space has a high, vaulted, beamed ceiling. 

 

There is a garage and entrance foyer on the ground floor; a flight of steps leads up to the living area on the first floor.

 

The sitting area is comfortably furnished with a two seater sofa and two arm chairs, coffee table, plenty of lamps and prints.  For your entertainment there’s a satellite TV with free-to-air UK channels, Sky+ so that you can record or pause programmes, radio, DVD/CD player, ipod docking station WiFi/Internet is available to all guests under the proviso is that there is no support if things go wrong.

 

Glass sliding doors from the sitting area open to the sunny terrace of 17 sq m, with a built-in BBQ and outdoor dining setting.  The terrace is private and has a delightful view over an avenue of plane trees which shade the town’s boules pitch. 

 

Separated from the dining area by a breakfast bar, the kitchen has an American fridge with ice-maker, electric oven, induction hob, built-in microwave and is very well equipped. 

 

There’s a good sized utilities room with washing machine, iron, ironing board. 

 

The bedroom has a queen size bed, plenty of wardrobe space and a glass door opening to the terrace.  The shower room has a walk-in shower, vanity with basin, WC. 

A handy dressing room has a sofa and chest of drawers; the study is furnished with a desk, armchair and coffee table.

THE SURROUNDING AREA:

This is the largest wine producing area in France and the town is surrounded by picturesque little villages encircled by grape vines.  There are many wine tasting opportunities at the numerous private domains and ‘cave co-operatives’.   Enjoy fresh seafood at pretty little ports in the sunshine.

 

Plenty of historically interesting sights nearby and an hour's drive takes you to splendid Roman towns such as Avignon, Nîmes, Arles to the east, stunning Carcassonne and the Cathar castles to the west.
