L’Esperou
is a little hamlet in a lovely rural
setting attached to the small village
of Les Plans. It is perched on a hill overlooking a beautiful valley and this
free-standing house, built of local stone, enjoys superb views.
The house (second from bottom photo left) is approached by a driveway, which is the right of way for one other house a little further on. (NB: the driveway is not gated but there is very little passing traffic – only residents of the small hamlet)
A flight of exterior steps takes you up to the big private terrace. With an outdoor dining setting, barbecue and sun loungers, it is perfect for al fresco dining or sunbathing. The house is entered from the terrace into the large, comfortably furnished sitting room with dining area, high vaulted ceiling, a stone open fireplace and wonderful views over the countryside. The kitchen, which is well equipped with dishwasher, fridge/freezer etc., plus a double bedroom, are on this level.
The dining area has a long, rectangular table and wheel back chairs. The sitting area is comfortably furnished with sofas, coffee tables, lamps, etc.
Downstairs are two twin-bedded rooms and the two bathrooms, plus a separate WC. One bathroom has a bath with overhead shower plus hand washbasin, the second has a shower, WC and hand washbasin. One of the bedrooms has it's own second entrance from outside. There is plenty of storage space in a large built-in wardrobe in the corridor, plus a utilities room with washing machine, which leads into the garage.
There is a telephone for incoming calls and local emergency numbers. Pre-paid phone cards (available at local shops) can be used for outgoing calls. All rooms in the house have views and leafy outlooks. The house has central heating (electric radiators) for winter and fans are provided for the summer.

THE VILLAGE:
Les Plans is a hamlet 6 kms from the bustling market town of Lodève which has shops, supermarkets, restaurants, a large weekly street market, bike hire and a museum with excellent exhibitions throughout the year. The hills and countryside surrounding the house are ideal for walking and there is a multitude of local places of historic interest to visit. Mediterranean beaches are an hour’s drive, Lac Salagou for swimming, fishing and non-motorised water sports, 15 kms. Golf at scenic Lamalou les Bains a 40 minute drive.
Discover tiny stone-built hamlets tucked into the countryside or clinging to the side of a steep hill, forests of chestnut and pine trees, meandering mountain streams. Then a medieval village will suddenly appear, with narrow, cobbled streets and beautiful stone buildings, sometimes dominated by a fortified chateau.
There are famous underground caves to visit, dolmens, menhirs and prehistoric sites to discover and weird rock formations abound. You’ll come across a farm from time to time where the owner will sell you goats cheese made on the premises, some honey perhaps flavoured with wild thyme and even fois gras or preserved duck.

We really enjoyed our stay (4 weeks) at the Country House. It was exactly as was described. The location was perfect - somewhere we could unwind but within easy reach of civilisation.
We had a fabulous week in l’Esparou, the location is perfect, very peaceful, amazing views and within easy reach of stunning scenery. Lovely beaches and fascinating towns and villages.
Just arrived back from France after spending two wonderful weeks at La Maison de Campagne. The house was everything we had hoped it would be, being in a lovely setting and having everything we needed.We enjoyed our holiday very much and were happy with the house, which we found comfortable, well equipped and delightfully situated.
